

Edna English was born in Altoona, Pennsylvania, January 10, 1922 to parents Oscar and Mary English- both deceased. She graduated from Altoona Senior High School, and entered nursing at the Hospital for Women of MD in Baltimore with a six month affiliation at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Stayed at Womens for two years after gradation as head nurse in OR. Returned to Altoona and, worked as night supervisor for seven years at the three hundred bed hospital. Then entered the U.S. Army Nurse Corps and was stationed at Valley Forge for six months. Then went to Bremerhaven. Germany and Walter Reed, Seoul Korea, Fort Dix, New Jersey twice, Fort Gordon, France and Belgium. . She was the last nurse assigned to the US Army Hospital in France after closure by DeGaulle. Retired 1973 at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. After retirement, she enjoyed painting, singing and crafts. She is survived by one brother Robert English (Sara) Baltimore MD., Niece Laura Schaefer (Tim) and 2 great nieces and 3 great nephews. She is survived by her Texas family Bonnie Vela (Richard), Leslie Anne of Austin, Texas, Nicole (Jaimie) of Lake Conroe, Texas. She was loved by all. Graveside services will be on Saturday, October 21 at 2:30 pm at Sunset Memorial Park.
