

She lived a long, happy, and exuberant life, devoted to her family and pursuing her many interests.
Raised in San Antonio, Edna attended Main Avenue High School and Incarnate Word College.
In 1936, she married Harvey B. Whitaker, a San Antonio geologist born in Falls City, Nebraska.
During World War II, she served as a Gray Lady for the American Red Cross.
She was a longtime member of Christ Episcopal Church and Laurel Heights Garden Club.
Throughout her life, Edna continued mastering new skills and pursuing her passions.
She was an avid gardener, gourmet cook, bridge player, world traveler, gracious hostess and a dedicated student of the bible.
Edna loved the outdoors and Sunday drives in the country.
An artistic floral designer, she participated in many shows at the San Antonio Garden Center.
She was a member of the Argyle Club, Oak Hills Country Club, San Antonio Country Club, the San Antonio Conservation Society, and the Chrysanthemum Ball Association.
She and her three sisters were proud of their early Texas heritage as descendants of pioneering colonists in Castroville.
Above all she will be remembered for her love and devotion to both her immediate and extended family.
She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three sisters, Gertrude Pearce, Anne Marquis, and Lydia Brady.
She is survived by daughters, Nancy Whitaker Ryan of San Francisco, Susan Whitaker Dial and husband, Steve Dial of Austin; four grandchildren, Tegan Christine Ryan, Travis Alex Ryan both of San Francisco, Christopher Burton Dial of Houston, Courtney Elizabeth Dial of Austin; niece, Melinda Brady Dietz and husband, Richard and son, Ricky Dietz of San Antonio.
She is also survived by her loving caregivers who became part of her extended family, Lois Mendoza, Linda Cortez, Gloria Casillas, and Virginia Balderama.
