Edward “Ed” M. Balderrama, age 86, passed away February 22, 2021 in San Antonio, TX surrounded by family. He was born in Bigfoot, TX on July 2, 1934 and was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather, and friend who will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents Juvencio and Gregoria Balderrama, son Branden Keith Balderrama, sister Alice Balderrama, and brother Richard Balderrama.
Ed served in the U.S. Marine Corps, 1954-1958 and the U.S. Marine Corps reserves from 1959-1963. He attended Howard Payne University studying business management. He began his career with San Antonio Savings in 1962 where he started as a Branch Manager, met his future wife Connie Garza and worked his way up through the years. He was given an opportunity to open a new bank in 1973 and relocated the family to Laredo Texas becoming one of the youngest bank President’s and CEO at the time. Ed was a generous contributor and fund raiser for the United Way. He was always helping those less fortunate and in need. He retired from banking in the late 80’s and returned to San Antonio where he continued his passion for ranching, loving his family and living his life under God.
He is survived by his former wife and companion of 56 years Connie Garza and their children: son, Edward Dominic Balderrama and wife Nicole; daughter Laryssa Kay Alexander and husband Joseph; son Randall Trevor Balderrama and wife Natalie; daughter D’Andria B. Cox; daughter-in-law Luisa Balderrama; grandchildren, Brittney Lauren, Brandi Dominique, D’Andria Jordan, Trevor Brian, Luvika Michelle, Bryan Keith, Leila Bleu, Caleb Riley, Madison Reese, Joshua Ryan, Edward Dominic Jr. and Conrad Vaughn; sister Dr. Ernestine B. Kubicek and husband Henry, brothers Raul Balderrama, Arthur Balderrama and wife Sandra and numerous nephews and nieces.
Ed enjoyed family, baseball, ranching, and researching family genealogy.
The Visitation will be Sunday, March 7, 2021 at 6pm followed by a Rosary at 7 pm at Sunset Funeral Memorial Chapel. The Funeral Service will be 1 pm, Monday, March 8, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. The Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
We are grateful for the tremendous outpouring of love and wishes to be present at these events; however, due to COVID restrictions and seating limitation we ask that only immediate and close family plan on attending.
