Edward Jude Frick left this world unexpectedly on October 21, 2024. He was born June 13, 1956 and grew up in Park Ridge, Illinois. The second son of Francis and Nancy, younger brother of Mike (Janelle), and older brother of Mary (Bob), Patty (Jim), and Lynn (Ron), Ed had a gentleness to him and a mischievous streak, getting up to all kinds of shenanigans and trouble with his older brother and friends. He attended Mary Seat of Wisdom and Main South High School and was a star athlete receiving PepsiCo’s All American for football. It was there he met his beautiful bride, Kimberly Heidkamp, but they wouldn’t start dating until after high school when their mutual friends reacquainted them.
Ed and Kim married in 1979 and had Sarah, Ed, and Liza. Ed’s job brought them to Motor City in Michigan and eventually San Antonio in 1998.
He retired in 2020 and was not in a rush to figure out the next chapter, appreciating having access to all sports all the time with all the streaming platforms, keeping up with his kids in all their personal and career pursuits, adoring his two granddogs, and building the garden of their dreams with Kim. Although he lived with chronic illness and pain, he worked so hard to give his family a beautiful life.
He leaves behind his wife, children, mother, siblings, many nieces and nephews who he adored, neighbors, and many friends.
We will miss his great story telling, his big hugs, his music taste, and feeling like we just never got enough time with our big guy.
If Ed’s life can teach us anything, it’s that our time on earth is not unlimited. Love hard, forgive quickly, and have a good story to tell.
A celebration of life will be held in San Antonio on Friday, October 25th atPorter Loring Mortuary North (2102 N Loop 1604 E) at 6 pm.
A second celebration will held in Chicago at a later date.
