Edward John (Buddy) Orr went to be with our Lord and Savior on January 28, 2022 at the age of 92. He is survived by the love his life, Joan Jackson Orr, to whom he was married for 64 years. They were a united team in love and life, and they built a solid foundation for their children. Buddys greatest joys in life were his children Tracy Orr Smith (Burl), Allison Greer Francis (Kirk) and Reagan Orr (Allison), his beloved grandchildren Ryan Greer, Jordan Cotton Best (Alex), Austin Greer, Travis Orr, Elizabeth Greer, Adrianna Littleton (Judah), Davis Orr and two great grandchildren Caelynn Mae and Sterling. Buddy is also survived by his brother, Connie Orr (Barbara) and niece Susan Orr. He was preceded in death by his parents, William D. Orr and Julia Knopp Orr, siblings Alexander, James, William, and Mary Ann and nephew James Orr.
A graduate of Jefferson High School and St. Marys University, Buddy was a well-known and well-respected property tax consultant for most of his adult life. While he was attending St. Marys, he went to work for Arthur Veltman & Associates, and later purchased the business with his brother, Connie. Buddy continued working at Veltman in the Milam Building until his late 80s. He also served our country in the National Guard for 8 years.
Buddy was an avid fisherman and loved teaching his children and grandchildren how to catch reds and specks in Rockport, Texas. He also loved wade fishing in Little Bay and other places along the Texas Coast. He and Joanie loved to travel, dance, and play cards, and were active in many clubs and social organizations.
Buddy loved life and will be remembered for his infectious sense of humor and his love of celebrations, especially if they included Mexican food and mariachis singing "Gavilan Pollero."
We would like to express our gratitude to his caregivers for their compassionate care over the past year: Sara, Maria, Georgette, Paige, Michael, and Jack. Services will be held at Porter Loring North, 2102 N. Loop 1604 E, on Thursday, February 10th at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 1701 Austin Highway. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to your charity of choice.
