

He was a proud veteran of the US Navy who served during the Viet Nam war. Upon return to San Antonio, he was employed with the Bexar County Juvenile Probation Department and retired after being employed for over 30 years of dedicated service.
Eddie always placed his family first in his life; with his greatest accomplishment being a loving and beloved husband, father, grandpa, uncle and brother.
An active member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, he was Past President of their school board; active with the P.T.C. and found joy and fulfillment as a referee for juvenile athletics.
Eddie is preceded in death by his father, Cleto Ortiz and brother, Rudy Ortiz.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Grace Ortiz; daughter Priscilla Ortiz; son Matthew Edward Ortiz and wife, Marissa; grandchildren: Olivia Grace Ortiz and William Xavier Ortiz; "granddaughter" Raven Lee McGarity; mother Stella Ortiz; brother, Gilbert Ortiz; sisters, Teresa Castillas and Ophelia Leija; aunts: Francis O. Rodriguez and Minnie Sepulveda along with numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, with a Military salute at 6:00 pm at Porter Loring on McCullough.
