Born Edward Spencer Stocker, Jr. in Boston, MA, August 11th, 1940 to Spencer and Catherine Stocker.“Ned” would soon move to St. Louis in the Fall of 1940 where his family lived until they move to McAllen, TX in the Summer of 1949.
Ned attended Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School and McAllen High School where he excelled in sports and was involved in several school organizations. Graduating in 1958, Ned would enlist in the US Navy in August 1958, where he served as an Airborne Radio Operator in Guam and Hawaii.
Discharged in 1961, Ned returned to McAllen to enroll and graduate from Pan American University. He founded the Phi Sigma Kappa Chapter at Pan American in addition to being named in the “Who’s Who in American College”. He managed all this while working full-time at Office Equipment Company.
After graduating college in 1965, Ned went to work for IBM Corp for the next 40 years starting in Sales and Marketing and finishing in Management. While at IBM, he won many awards that he was very proud of, including the 100% Club.
Ned’s true passion was service and mentoring. He was able to fulfill that desire through his involvement with Rotary International, Boy Scouts of America-Troop 515, and St. Marks Catholic Church youth retreat ministry.
Probably Ned’s longest and most involved ministry was his work with Alcoholics Anonymous. It was here that he focused his desire to serve others by bringing the AA message to the prisons in and around the San Antonio area. His work here over the years with the Prison Initiative would later be recognized by Governor Rick Perry.
He is preceded in death by both of his parents and his brother, Tom Stocker. He is survived by his wife of 23 years Mary Clare Stocker. Ned’s children: Robert Stocker (Cheryl), Kim Jones (Ray), Kristine Schwope (Charles) and stepson Bryan Anderson (Olya).
He adored his grandchildren Jordan and James Stocker (Robert & Cheryl), Rachel and John Jones (Kim & Ray), Julia and Ryan Schwope (Kristine & Charles), and Mia Anderson and Vadym Hnatiuk (Bryan & Olya)
He is survived by his siblings Cathy Lyssy (Fred-dec) of San Antonio, Mary Ellen Stocker (Tom-dec) of McAllen, Bill Stocker (Sally-dec) of McAllen and Mary Hill (Larry-dec) of McAllen as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
