

Edwin D. Ramos-Seijo, M.D., USAF Colonel (Ret), 84, of Windcrest, Texas, passed away Wednesday. He was born on February 17, 1931, in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. Edwin graduated with honors from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine and later received a MPH at UC-Berkley. He was a career officer and Command Flight Surgeon, serving at world-wide posts as Hospital Commander most notably in Algeria, Vietnam, Greece, Turkey, and Spain. Edwin was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was honored with various medals and ribbons: the Legion of Merit with two Bronze Oak Leaf clusters, Meritorious Service medal with two Bronze Oak Leaf clusters, AF Commendation medal, AF Outstanding Unit Award with two Bronze Oak Leaf clusters, Good Conduct medal, National Defense Service medal, Vietnam Service medal with two Bronze Oak Leaf clusters, AF Longevity Service Award ribbon with one Silver Oak Leaf cluster and two Bronze Oak Leaf clusters, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal. He received special recognition by the Spanish government and monarchy when bestowed the Spanish Air Force Legion of Honor for his untiring commitment to facilitate better relations and understanding between the two countries. Edwin collaborated with the Royal Saudi Air Force to help modernize its Aerospace Medicine.
Edwin was an active citizen of Windcrest and tirelessly served on the Charter Commission. He was involved with many organizations inclusive of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Lions Clubs International. Edwin was a founding member St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Council 9291 Knights of Columbus and member, Equestrian Order, Knights of the Holy Sepulcher.
Edwin married Sylvia Echandi-Orellanes on December 22, 1956. He was the proud father of Edwin (Kate), Juan (Carolyn), Sylvia (Guiseppe), Rosa (Fred), Isabel (Dale), and Michelle (Mario). He was especially excited to be grandfather to Rebecca (Tony), Sylvia, Alexander, Nicolás, Rafael, Nora, Jacklyn, Antonio, John, Quino, and Yzabela. In life, Edwin was an exemplary example of service to God, country, family, and friends.
Viewing will be held Monday, December 21, 2015, between 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 6680 Crestway, San Antonio, Vigil and Rosary will follow. Funeral mass will be on Tuesday, December 22, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church and burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 17501 Nacogdoches Rd, San Antonio
