Elaine Thorne

Elaine Thorne, 91, peacefully passed away in her sleep on Sunday, March 26, 2023 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on December 30, 1931 to John Ran and Charlotte Nelson in Mathis Texas and grew up with three protective brothers, Charles Austin Nelson, John Ran Nelson Jr, and Carroll Van Nelson. Her faith, family, and friends were the most important things in her life. She was a loving sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and was an example to all of us by the way she lived. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Bert Thorne, by her parents and her brothers Charles Austin Nelson, and John Ran Nelson Jr. She is survived by her brother Carroll Van Nelson, her sister in law Nancy Nelson, her sons, Brad Thorne (Belen) and Gregg Thorne (Melissa); grandchildren Lauren Huckabay (Scott), Matt Thorne, Taylor Hart (Ryan) and Lainey Thorne and her great grandsons, Grayson and Grant Huckabay. Our family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Franklin Park Memory Care and Remarkable Hospice for delivering loving care to Mom throughout her time there.

A graveside service at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery is scheduled for 10:30 am on April 21, 2023.
