

He was drafted into the US Army, November 15, 1949 and proudly served his country. During his years in the military, he married his long time love, Leonora Luis, July 10, 1954 and they continue his military journey and life together.
He was an alumni of St. Louis High School and later after retirement from the military, he earned his Associates in Applied Science through the Alamo College System.
He was preceded in death by daughter, Genene A. Burdett-Diaz and father, Eli Kala La'a, Sr.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Leonora La'a of San Antonio; daughter, Eliene Mapuana Marinelli and her husband, Martin; son, Joseph Kahala La'a; son, Frank Kalani La'a and his wife, Karen, Edward Kalahiki La'a and his wife, Sandra and daughter, Kahale O'Brien and her husband, Jonathan all of San Antonio; grandchildren, Joseph La'a of Waianae, Hawaii, Joseph Palomo, Christopher La'a, Matthew La'a, Nicholas La'a, Jason La'a all of San Antonio, Texas, June-Marie Frieda of George West, Texas, Victoria Gillenwater of Kingsport, Tennessee and Dorothy Hedgepath of San Antonio, Texas; 8 great grandchildren; brother, Manny K. Fernandez and his wife, Bettyjean of Aloha, Oregon; sister, Sarah La'a-Bowers and her husband, Walter of Rio Rancho New Mexico and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Celebration Services of his life begin Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Porter Loring North, 2102 North Loop 1604 East (on Gold Canyon Rd).
Instate visitations from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Chapel visitations from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
