Elia Yzela Garza of San Antonio, TX passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2016. She was 67. Elia was born on November 27, 1948 to parents Olivia and Jesus Vara in Laredo, TX. She attended Martin High School in Laredo, and later went on to work for AT&T.
In her finest role (Grandma,) she loved nothing more than doting on her grandchildren and showering them with love.
Her feisty spirit will live on in the memories of those who knew her. Elia’s grandchildren were the delight of her life, and not a moment was wasted that she spent with them. She exemplified a life of being in the moment and enjoyed good food in the company of friends, shopping, music and dancing, and laughing. Elia had an uncompromising zest for life that overflowed to those who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her Children: Alberto Garza of San Antonio, Edel Garza (wife, Bertha; stepson Stephen) of Luling, Ana Garza Warmke and her husband John Warmke of San Antonio; Grandchildren: Aubrey, Cohen, Ella, and Alexis Ann Garza; Siblings: Olivia Leven of Lansing MI (*she will mourn the passing of her sister forever), Carlos Manuel Vara of Corpus Christi, TX, and Jose Jesus Vara of Laredo. Elia lived a full and fun life, and passed away confident that her family knew how very much she loved them. At the time of her passing she had the peace of knowing her children are healthy, loved, and forever committed to carrying out the legacy she set before them: to love one another.
A Memorial Service will be on Friday (9/2) at 1pm at Concordia Lutheran Church, 16801 Huebner Rd., San Antonio. The family will be receiving friends from 12-1 PM, prior to the service, and ask that guests remain for a small reception at the church immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Concordia Lutheran Church in Elia’s memory.
