Elizabeth Rose Godsey, age 33, lost her battle with chronic illness on Friday May 16, 2025. Her sudden passing has left her family and friends deeply heartbroken. Her loved ones are coming together during this time to honor her vibrant and loving spirit.
She was born on September 12, 1991, in Biloxi, MS. Liz loved the outdoors and animals, often spending her time hiking and exploring with her two beautiful children, Marie and Gabriel. Liz always regarded the natural world with a sense of awe, from talking to the local fauna as a small girl, to forest bathing as an adult, or taking pictures of unique moss growths where others saw only a tree. She also maintained a diverse personal menagerie, happily educating any who took an interest. Her passion for nature led her to complete a BS (summa cum laude) in environmental studies, which was posthumously awarded to her daughter Marie, Sunday May 18th, 2025, from The University of Texas San Antonio. Her passion for nature and life accorded her a fellowship, a scholarship and many friends at the University.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Liz will remember her for her gentle spirit, her compassionate heart, and her unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. She had a gift for seeing the extraordinary in the ordinary, and her legacy will continue to inspire others to look at the world through the same lens of wonder and appreciation.
Elizabeth Rose Godsey's life was a testament to the power of love, the importance of family, and the transformative beauty of nature. She will be deeply missed, but her vision for a world in harmony with its surroundings will continue to guide and inspire us all.
She is survived by her two children, Marie and Gabriel; parents, John Brownlee and Ann Bolton-Brownlee; sisters, Claire (Chris) Heins, and Rachel (Marco) Brownlee Kurita; nieces and nephews, Audrey, Eleanor, Oliver and Elliott; along with many close loving friends.
A Celebration of her Life will be held on June 1, 2025, at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough Ave, San Antonio, TX 78212 at 3:00 pm. Please wear colorful comfortable clothing to this celebration.
