I just heard of your mom's death today and I am sorry for your loss. She was a neat person, as was your dad. You all were lucky to have wonderful parents who understood what the job of parenting requires. You will have their memories with you forever.

'As the story goes, Michael & myself were about age 5 or 6 & broke his Fisher Price toy ferris wheel on my suggestion to be adventurous & stick a small piece of chord into the gears to 'see if we could' break it'. Well, of course, we broke the wind up gear & Michael said his mom is really going to be mad & both of us were in big trouble. I knocked on Mrs. King's front door two weeks later & she explained Michael could not come out to play & furthermore the ferris wheel 'had to go into the shop'. Feeling pretty down & a little scared, I knocked on the door a second time & Mrs. King said Michael was up in his room & he was allowed to come to the front door but only for a few minutes. The third week I knocked on the door almost in tears asking Mrs. King if Mike could ever come out & play again; She explained it was possible but we(especially me) were both still very much in trouble since the Ferris Wheel was 'still in the shop'. This was the beginning of not only a friendship with Michael but a beautiful observance of Mrs.King (keep in mind I was invited back in the house again) and her true enjoyment of life. She loved making a wood fire during the winter months, watching the Cowboys on TV & yelling at Golden Richards or Jethro Pugh as though they too were her sons. Mrs. King, we will never forget the electric bubbling icicle ornaments on your Christmas tree and the special time you took to make the gingerbread house including tafee chewees as the bricks and a custom cut mirror as the ice skating rink. She yelled to us but not at us; laughed at our irreverent jokes and absorbed a lot a stress as two teenage lifetime friends made their way. God Speed to you Mrs. King for being so great & wise enough to handle all that you did. May you truly rest in peace & the light of God.'

Don't you know Heaven is having the greatest baseball game ever now that your Mom has returned home for the play-offs! My Mom, Dorothy and I are so sorry for your loss -yet we are all so lucky to have another angel to know our name, and that's your Mom. Some people watched the movie Field of Dreams -yet your Mom lived it! How lucky I am that you moved to Castroville and I (we) got to know and LOVE your Momma.
