Elizabeth Virginia Polly McClung McGown was born in Harriston, Virginia on August 26, 1918, and died in San Antonio, Texas on Wednesday, December 27, 2006. She was a graduate of Garfield Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Washington D.C. and Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.
During World War II, she served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. She was assigned to the 186th General Hospital in England, which cared for casualties from D-Day and the European Campaign. She achieved the rank of Captain.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Junior League of San Antonio.
Survivors are her husband of 63 years, Floyd McGown; daughter, Nancy McGown Minor; son, Andrew McGown; grandson, Justin R. Minor; great granddaughter, Savannah Minor; sister, Peggy Boccetti; and numerous nieces and nephews.
