

FISCHER
Ella Zuschlag, M.D., wife of Albert "Budge" Fischer, M.D., age 98, of San Antonio, passed away Thursday, August 29, 2013, after a lengthy illness. She was the daughter of German immigrants, born in Friday, Texas on May 18, 1915.
She was a graduate of Harlandale High School where she was known as "Texas Slim" on the softball team. In 1938, Dr. Zuschlag became the first female intern at the Robert B. Green Hospital. She did her pediatrics specialty training at the Mayo Clinic where she married Albert Fischer, M.D. Upon completion of their training, they relocated to San Antonio to enter into private practice. Dr. Zuschlag practiced pediatrics in San Antonio for over 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; parents, Henry and Anna Schaefer Zuschlag; her brother, Conrad, her sister, Anna, and three siblings who died in early childhood; and her grandson, Albert Joseph, Jr.
She is survived by her sons, Albert Joseph "Buddy" Fischer and wife Connie, Chuck Fischer, Richard Fischer and wife Sue, Bill Fischer and wife Melanie; daughter equivalent, Josephine Estrada; grandchildren, Katherine Cummins and husband Chris, Eric Fischer and wife Mary, Michael Fischer, Jonathan Fischer and wife Alexandra, Kathryn Fischer, Joseph Fischer, Ella Fischer, C.J. Fischer; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m., Monday, September 2, 2013, at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
