Elsie will be sincerely missed for her wonderful sense of humor, her quick wit and her compassion for others. Her faith was strong, and she never wavered in her relationship with her Lord.
Elsie attended Southwest Texas University (SWT later known as Texas State) and graduated with a Bachelors degree in Speech Language Pathology. She worked in several school districts around the state, and retired in 2000 after thirty years. Following her retirement, she volunteered at her church in Katy, eventually creating a part-time position which she shared with another church member.
In 2015, Elsie and Paul decided to leave the hustle and bustle of Katy (the West Houston area), and relocate to the Texas Hill Country near Marble Falls. Living high in the hills they had a commanding view of the area, and enjoyed the wildlife that visited them, as well as the beautiful sunrises and sunsets.
Elsie cherished her time as “Lolly” to her grandchildren, and embraced any opportunity to spend time with the youngest members of her family. She became an excellent baby holder and quickly acquired a vast knowledge of monster trucks and construction vehicles!
Elsie was always a faithful servant to those in need. She cared selflessly for her mother, father-in-law, and mother-in-law in their final years with devotion, compassion, and humility. She was also a “silent cheerleader” for many experiencing personal struggles, and discretely provided prayer, emotional support, and practical help without ever seeking acknowledgement. Her service to others was an example to many
Elsie’s love of animals was evident, and she had a knack for acquiring needy animals who required a special kind of care. She never thought twice about sacrificing her own needs or plans to accommodate the demands of her pets -- her four-legged babies.
She loved the church, and was very actively involved in the church in Katy, then Houston, and then in Marble Falls. She also participated for over 25 years in an annual retreat (later named Sisters in Faith Covered by Grace), where she met many lifelong friends who supported one another through life’s blessings and challenges.
Elsie was survived by her husband of 30 years, Paul, her step-children, Nicole Martinez (John), Scott Giraudin (Elizabeth), Rachel Stein (Nate), and Clayton Giraudin (Amanda) and eight grandchildren, as well as numerous cousins from her mother's side of the family. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Emil and Eloise Bowers.
In lieu of flowers, she requested that donations be made to "Hank's and Eli's Fund" online at (https://hankandeli.com) or by mail to P. O. Box 1830, Orange Grove, TX 78372. This organization provides assistance with veterinary care for the service animals of veterans and retired military animals. In Elsie's memory, please wear your sunscreen and get your yearly skin checks.
