She met her beloved husband, Bill Johnson, while she attended Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and he attended seminary in Springfield, IL. They married in 1955 and went on to serve in ministry together.
Her ministry included nursing at hospitals & elementary schools throughout Texas, raising her children and grandchildren, and partnering with her husband in churches within the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, Texas District. As a proud pastor’s wife she led small groups, taught Sunday school, sang in choirs, and cared for the congregants and their families. Her outgoing personality and obvious loving spirit were used by God in marvelous ways.
Throughout her life Emily has cherished those around her as a loving daughter, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother and friend. She demonstrated this in the way she lovingly and constantly prayed, hosted dinners, and radiated kindness to everyone she met.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, J. Weldon Renken, Robert Renken (Helen), Raymond Renken (Joann), Dale Renken; brother-in-law Rev. Ed Greve; and sister-in-law, Joan.
