A matriarch in every sense, Emma was the heart of a large and ever-growing family. She was a devoted and loving wife, proud and nurturing mother, a cherished grandmother, and a joyful great-grandmother. Her home was always open, her table always full, and her love always abundant. Emma created a legacy not only through her children and grandchildren but through the countless lives she touched with her kindness, wisdom, and gentle strength.
Emma was born on July 15, 1942, in La Ceiba, Honduras, where she grew up until she immigrated to the US through a work permit in Puerto Rico and relocated to Miami, Florida. During this time, Emma worked hard to support her family, including her sons in Honduras, and later bringing them to the US. Over the following years Emma followed her congregation to San Antonio, TX where she and her family permanently established their home.
Emma's faith was the cornerstone of her life. A woman of deep and abiding belief, she lived each day guided by grace, compassion, and trust in God. She found joy in prayer, comfort in scripture, and purpose in serving others. Her faith was not only something she held —it was something she shared, inspiring those around her to live with hope and love. Emma was a faithful congregate to her church for over 50 years.
She will be remembered for her warm smile, her listening ear, her steady presence, and the way she made everyone feel like family. Whether through a kind word, a home-cooked meal, or a quiet moment of prayer, Emma gave of herself generously and without hesitation.
Emma is preceded in death by her parents, Roberto Tablas & Maria Banegas, and her brothers: Marcos, Carlos and Rene Tablas.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Ismael Serrano Sr, and her sons: Eliseo Suarez, Jose (Karla) Suarez, Jorge (Rocio) Tablas, David (Eileen) Suarez, and Ismael Serrano Jr. Her grandchildren: Xofia Suarez, Jessuly Suarez, Melissa Blackburn, Lilly Suarez, Elizabeth Gallegos, Jorge Tablas Jr, Stephanie Tablas, and Antonio Suarez. Her siblings: Miguel Tablas, Norma Tablas and Mario Tablas. Her great-grandchildren: Jovanni, Ruben, Isabella, Jed, Scarlett, Luke and Benjamin. Numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and dear friends.
Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she is at peace and reunited with loved ones who have gone before her.
