Eric Stanley Riester passed away unexpectedly March 11, 2002, while on a fishing trip. He was 33 years old. He was born on November 19, 1968 at Wilford Hall Medical Center to Sallie and the late Dr. Albert Eric Riester. He graduated from Clark High School in 1987 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Urban Studies from the University of Pennsylvania in 1991. He earned a Master of Science degree in Urban Administration from Trinity University in 1993. At the time of his death he was a second year law student at St. Mary's School of Law. Prior to entering law school he had worked for the Alamo Water Reuse and Conservation District, the Downtown Owners Association, the City of San Antonio, and the Bexar County Office of Budget and Management. He was a varsity football player in both high school and college. He was a Life Loyal member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was selected for and published in the Law Review, and had recently been inducted into the Phi Delta Phi Honors Fraternity. He was eagerly anticipating several clerkships this summer after having enjoyed the experience of a 5th Circuit Court of Appeals clerkship last summer. He had a passion for the outdoor life. He loved bay fishing most of all, but also greatly enjoyed hunting and spending time at his family's Hill Country ranch. He cherished his time at home, grilling on the patio and maintaining the landscape around the family's house. Eric was most of all a devoted husband, father and son, and a loyal friend. All who knew and loved him will profoundly miss him. Dr. Albert Eric Riester, his father, precedes him in death. Surviovors include his wife, Dr. Antoinette Toni Flanagan Riester; daughter, Avery Elizabeth Riester; mother, Sallie Krusen Riester; sister, Lauren Elizabeth Pinchbeck and husband Greg; maternal grandmother, Elizabeth H. Krusen and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
