Erma Jean Poole was born July 25, 1935, in Montgomery, Alabama, and passed away January 24, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 86 years old. She was preceded in death by her parents Fletcher and Nannee Suggs, husband Harold Poole, son Billy Poole, siblings N.J. Suggs and Nona Harrell, grandson B.J. Poole and Grand daughter Samantha Pool . She is survived by sons Victor (Nanette) Poole and Roy (Cyndy) Poole; sister Nannette (George) Gwaltney; grandchildren Martin (Kim)Poole, Danielle (Scott) Milam, Marcia Ann (Jason) Reed, Daniel Smith, Michelle and Mary Ray; great grand children Cheyanne, Maguire, and Kami Poole; Kameron, Jenieve Rose, Brianna, and Eric Reed; and Watson Milam; many nieces and nephews; and friends that became family Sheila, Steven, Steffinie, and Atticus Whitcher.
After her children had grown and left home, Jean found a true passion for horses - riding them, training them, teaching about them, breeding them, boarding them. She and her husband Harold bought property and built Poole Ranch and Stables. Jean became very involved with 4-H as well as teaching continuing education courses about horses and horse care. She participated in the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo Trail Ride for many years. Jean was featured on Texas Country Reporter as the first recipient of the Silver Star for senior adults.
Jean was a member of Southeast Baptist Church for many years. She was baptized there in August of 2009. She enjoyed attending church and singing the gospel songs. During her time at Glory Land Baptist Church she taught Sunday School and was involved with the youth group.
After retiring from the horse business, Jean was committed to travel; there were many times when she would get in the car very early in the morning and drive straight through to Montgomery, Alabama to see her sister. She was so happy being on the road. In the last several years, her dear friend Sheila and son Atticus took her on many adventures; she got to see Niagra Falls, Mount Rushmore, Grand Canyon, and Washington DC to name a few.
The family would like to thank Susan Blumhorst at Senior Path Specialist, Ray and Elizabeth Blankenberg with R & E Care Home, and Cecilia Sanchez for providing Jean with the best place to live and the best caregiver to love her.
