Our beloved Erman Keith Jones passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026, at the age of 86. He lived an honorable and faithful life, serving God and country with devotion and dedicating himself wholeheartedly to the service of others.
Erman was born on December 1, 1939, in Ithaca, Michigan. He was lovingly raised by his grandparents, Fred and Martha Swanson, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Ginette Jones; his daughters, Myriam Nolen of San Antonio, Texas (children Tess, Christian, and Ashley); Gwendoline Jones of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (children JohnEric and Christel); and Valerie Knapp (preceded in death) of Norton, Oklahoma (children Elaine (preceded in death), Angela, and Jeremy). He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Diane Hall of St. Johns, Michigan (children Chris, Nick, Chelsea, and Jessica), and his adopted daughter, Phuong (Kim) Cavanaugh (son Tony), along with many extended family members and cherished loved ones.
Erman joined the United States Army in 1957 and faithfully served his country for 20 years, retiring in 1977 as a Sergeant First Class (SFC) with total VA disability. During his distinguished military career, he was stationed in France, Italy, Germany, Vietnam, Thailand, and Malaysia, among other locations. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal with six clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Presidential Unit Citation.
He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans and VFW Post 10210, and a member of American Legion Post 189 in Sebastian, where he also served as Past Honor Guard.
Erman valued education and lifelong learning. He attended Northwest Missouri State University, earning an Associate degree in Insurance. He completed Law Office Management training at the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s School at the University of Virginia. He later attended St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas, majoring in Accounting.
Following his retirement from the Army, Erman worked for Walgreens Drug Company and W.R. Grace as a Regional Auditor for Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. He later retired from Michigan Farm Bureau after 19 years of service as a Senior Liability Supervisor.
Never one to sit idle, he pursued his love of music after retirement, studying for three years and playing guitar with local country and blues bands.
In 1998, he moved to the Sebastian, Florida area. In 2001, he joined the Knights of Columbus and became a Fourth Degree Knight. He served as Past Grand Knight of Council 5629 at St. Helen Catholic Church and as Past Faithful Navigator of Brady Assembly 1932 in Vero Beach. He also served on the Treasure Coast Third Degree Team and First and Second Degree Teams.
Erman was a devoted member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church, where he served as an usher, Eucharistic Minister, and Past President of the Holy Name Society. He also served on the Board of St. Vincent de Paul in Wabasso as Client Aid and Treasurer.
In 2015, after the passing of his second wife, Erman moved back to San Antonio, Texas, seeking to be closer to his Texas family. During this tender season of life, he rekindled his love with his first wife, our beloved Meme, Ginette Jones. Together, they shared beautiful years traveling, visiting France and many other places across the country. They especially enjoyed cruises and long rides on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and spending time with their children and grandchildren.
He became a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in San Antonio and continued serving God and his parish faithfully until his final breath.
Erman Keith Jones spent his life giving the world love, kindness, respect, and service. He was deeply cherished and will be dearly loved and remembered always.
