

Colonel Ernest J. (Jack) Davis, United States Army (Ret) of San Antonio, died January 14, 2014. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts to Ernest H. and Clara (Ferguson) Davis August 14, 1924. He married Lieutenant Doris D. Kaegin on April 17, 1953, when both were stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky and went together to Korea during the Korean War. He served as a Non Commissioned Officer in Italy during World War II with the 10th Mountain Calvary Reconnaissance Troop, 10th Mountain Division. It was always a source of pride that he participated in the U.S. Army's last Horse Mounted Calvary Combat. Leaving the Army in 1946, he attended the University of Massachusetts. Upon graduation was commissioned in the Regular Army in 1951. After many Command and Staff assignments he was retired with over 30 year's service in 1979. His 16 Awards and Decorations include the Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Bronze Star for Valor. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife on October 23, 2006, and is survived by his son, Ernest J. Davis; daughter, Clara D. Thorne, granddaughter, Rosalind L. and husband, Dustin A. May; great grandsons, Sean A. Miller and Jordan J. May; sister, Audrey E. Davis; niece, Patricia A. Blair.
