Etta M. Hughes passed away on Monday, July 26, 2010 in San Antonio at the age of 93. She was born on January 15, 1917 in Florence, South Carolina.
In 1944, she met handsome Army Air Force Lieutenant, Joseph A. Hughes, and they married on April 15, 1945. The couple lived in Japan and El Paso before moving to San Antonio in 1957.
She was widowed in 1980. A devoted and loving mother to her daughter, Barbara Hughes Brundage, Etta was her rock, best friend and confidant, always forgiving and offering never-ending love. She had a cute sense of humor, and was known for being kind, uncomplaining and appreciative of people who were part of her life.
She worked as an office manager in her daughter's business for 27 years starting at age 60. She learned to use a computer in her seventies and was always dependable and very hard-working.
Etta enjoyed playing bridge and was devoted to her loving black and white Lhasa Apso of 13 years, Cookie, now lying by the front door waiting for her to come home.
Etta was preceded in death by her parents, Coley Whittington Owens and Eva Isgett Owens Bryant, and five siblings.
She is survived by her daughter Barbara in San Antonio, plus the families of nieces and nephews across the country.
Visitation will be on Friday, July 30, 2010 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church.
