

He graduated from Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway, Arkansas. Before going to war, Eugene married Margaret Teeter in the chapel at Yale University. Their marriage lasted a wonderful 64 years. After the Berlin Airlift and the end of WWII, he was commissioned into the United States Army, serving proudly over 20 years, including 2 overseas tours in Germany and Italy. In 1966, Eugene retired and moved with his family to San Antonio. He received a Master's in Education and Counseling from St. Mary's University and worked as a teacher and later as a senior counselor. Eugene was an accomplished wood carver and enjoyed traveling and reconnecting with his childhood roots in Arkansas. Col.
Bishop is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Bishop and his son, Col. Eugene H. Bishop, Jr. (Retired). He is survived by a brother, Dean Bishop of Garland, Texas; a daughter, Margaret Kay Denton and her husband, of San Antonio. Also surviving Eugene are a grandson Robert Bishop of Nashville, TN, a granddaughter, Mrs. Renee Gent of Whitefish Bay, WI and grandsons Bradley Denton and Bryon Denton both of San Antonio; he also has 8 great-grandchildren. He will be remembered for his warm sense of humor, enjoyment of life, and the positive impact he had on the lives of those around him.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Porter Loring on McCullough.
