

Prior to a successful lung transplant almost 5 years ago she had been a 25 year employee of the Baptist Hospital System. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Dwight J. and Evelyn S. Klaus Canfield.
She was very much of an outdoor person; she loved taking long drives and the coast. Evelyn's all time love was spending time with her children and grandchildren, spending Easter in Smithville, having tea parties with her granddaughter, playing cards with her sisters and she loved antiquing.
Survivors: husband, Gerald "Jerry" Briggs, children, Stuart M. Johnson & wife, Linda, Tracy L. Heaton and husband, David, Jr. and step-children, Sherry Land and husband, Jason all of San Antonio and Michael Briggs and wife, Andrea of Sulfur, LA., sisters and husbands, Sharlene L. & Nelson E. Scheler, Molly E. & Paul M. Todd, Jr., Jan E. & William "Bill" Rodwick, all of Smithville, TX, & Mary K. Shelley of Fort Worth, 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Porter Loring Mortuary McCullough from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
