Evelyn Marie Cherry

She is preceded in death by her husband of 26 years, Ross Cherry.

Evelyn is survived by her sisters, Lou Olga Finney, and Willyn Jorenby. She raised five children, Kathryn Slaughter, David Lincoln, Alfred Lincoln, Nancy Blanchard, Carolyn Jenkins; her grandchildren, Eryn Andrews, Kimberly Lincoln, Ashley Andrews, Christopher Blanchard, Erica Lincoln, Melissa Blanchard, and Matthew Jenkins, and her great-grandchild Trenton Wallace.

Born in San Antonio, Texas, Evelyn graduated from Columbus University with a master's degree in Organ Music. She was the organists for the churches she attended throughout her life. She went to work as a school teacher at Inez Foster Elementary School in San Antonio, Texas for 17 years, retiring in 1986. She instilled the love and appreciation of music in all of the children she taught as well as her children and grandchildren. More importantly all of her children know Jesus Christ as their Savior.

We want to give special thanks to all of the staff of the Alterra Sterling House. Their loving, compassionate care of our mother contributed to a peaceful passing from this life to the next.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 3, 2008 from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
