

Everett “Rick” Donowho, Jr. was born in San Antonio, Texas on August 14, 1941. Rick grew up on the south side of San Antonio with his mother, Laura Elizabeth Wright, but principally lived with his grandmother whom he called Ponte. Later after his mother married and moved across town, Rick moved back to live with his mother and stepfather.
Rick owned his first car and drove at the very early age of 13. Rick worked through high school at a Royal Pharmacy as a soda jerk and occasional delivery driver. Rick attended high school at Northeast High School (later renamed MacArthur H.S.) where he met and started dating Priscilla Moore. Rick’s senior year, he moved schools and was in the first graduating class of Robert E. Lee High School. As a senior art student, he proudly worked on the school crest.
After high school, Rick initially attended The University of Texas at Austin before transferring to Howard Payne University in the spring to be closer to Priscilla, his high school sweetheart. Rick and Priscilla were eventually married on August 5, 1961, at Trinity Baptist Church, immediately following Priscilla’s graduation but while Rick had one additional year remaining at Howard Payne. Priscilla taught high school while Rick took classes and sold shoes.
While Rick spent several years studying art, he shifted his studies to include classes in biology and eventually applied to and was accepted to medical school. Rick and Priscilla moved to Galveston, TX to attend The University of Texas Medical School.
After graduating medical school, Rick chose to join the Army and accept a residency in pathology at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso. Rick served as a captain for 6 years, retiring from Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio and then moving to the new VA Hospital prior to it’s opening. Rick later moved into private practice at Methodist Hospital where he was the Chief of Pathology for more than 20 years.
Rick retired from medicine in 2004, about the time that he and Priscilla built a home overlooking Canyon Lake. Rick and Priscilla enjoyed many years out by the lake. For many of their years in San Antonio, Rick served at Trinity Baptist Church within the youth ministry and as a deacon.
Rick is survived by his wife, Priscilla; son, Craig and his wife Linda, son Brian and his wife Lanelle; daughter, Colleen Lindsey and her husband Darrell; as well as grandchildren, Mitch Donowho and his wife Warrin, Kyle Donowho, Stephanie Donowho and her partner Zachary Spiro, Amy Neidig and her husband Jon Neidig, Katie Lindsey, Justin Lindsey and Meredith Lindsey; and great-grandchildren Claire and Hallie Neidig.
