Fanny (Frances) deRussy Shannon Kilgore departed this life peacefully on the morning of Thanksgiving Day. She was 103 years old.
Mrs. Kilgore was born in the Philippines on September 12, 1911 where her father, Lt. Colonel James Andrew Shannon, was stationed. Her mother was Imogene Hoyle Shannon, a descendent of the Hoyle and deRussy families noted for their achievements in the United States Army.
In 1932 she represented the Army as Duchess of the Court of Light in the Battle of Flowers.
In 1939 she married a dashing pilot, Lt. Colonel John Ray Kilgore. Theirs was a love match like few others.
Although she had no children, Mrs. Kilgore adored her nieces, nephews and cousins who will always remember her as the most generous, loving, thoughtful person.
