
Francisco was married for forty-five years to his devoted wife, Luz Maria Vara. They were entered into matrimony by the Roman Catholic Church in Giessen, Germany.
They were blessed with four children, Dana M. Main, married to Scott E. Main; Frank Albert Vara; Monique Marroquin Vasquez, married to Ricardo Vasquez; and Natascha C. Howell, married to Matthew Howell; seven grandchildren, Maximillian, Patrick, Alexander, Alessandra, Joaquin, Sophia, and Samuel.
Francisco G. Vara served his country for twenty-eight years and retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 with two combat tours in Viet Nam 1965-1966 and 1967-1968. He received the Silver and Bronze Stars. He served overseas in five different tours to Germany.
After retirement, Francisco G. Vara continued to serve his country in the civilian sector as contract manager in White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. His devotion to his country and community led him to the Texas Youth Commission, West Texas State School in Pyote, Texas and the Texas Youth Commission Ron Jackson State School in Brownwood, Texas for ten years of service to the State of Texas.
Francisco G. Vara received the Spirit Award for Texas State employees in June 2007. He was a devoted husband, wonderful father, loving grandfather and a trusting good friend. He was a generous, kind and a wonderful man that will be missed by his family, friends, and all those who knew him. Francisco's strength, courage, faith and love were evident in the way he lived his life. He was a faithful man who loved and drew strength from God.
