

Dr. Frank Loos Bond was born on December 1, 1929, in San Antonio, Texas. He was the only son of Frank Paschal Bond and Philis Marie Loos Bond. He died at his home in San Antonio on April 10, 2009, after a year and a half battle with acute myeloid leukemia.
His early years were spent in Sonora where his father was a rancher. He graduated from Sonora High School, received a B.A. degree from The University of Texas at Austin, a B.S. degree from St. Edward's University, and a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Baylor College of Dentistry. While at The University of Texas he became a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity.
Frank served for two years in Korea as a Captain in the U.S. Army, 19th Medical Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division and remained on active reserve duty for eight years.
He opened his practice of general dentistry in San Antonio in 1959, caring for patients for over 50 years. He belonged to the San Antonio District Dental Society, the Texas Dental Association, and the American Dental Association. He received the Goodfellow, Life, and Fifty-Year Awards from The Texas Dental Association. He was a member of Alamo Heights United Methodist Church where he served as an usher and was a member of the Open Door class.
Among his contributions to the community were his many years of coaching young men in the YMCA athletic programs and in the Alamo Heights Little League. He served on the Board of the Northeast YMCA.
He generously gave his time to several free dental clinics and to childrens homes, and he contributed his support to many educational and community causes.
His interests and hobbies included traveling, ranching, gardening, and golf. Among his favorite memories was his hole-in-one made during a Men's City Amateur Tournament in San Antonio.
Having been raised in West Texas, operating his ranch in Sutton County and spending time on the ranch were true pleasures for him. Frank and his wife, Mary Alice, enjoyed dancing, and they belonged to the Lamplighters, Revelers, and Los Alegradores dance clubs. He served as President of both Lamplighters and Los Alegradores. They also enjoyed being members of the Petroleum Club.
Dr. Bond is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Barnebey Bond and their children: Randa Bond Cheatle and husband, Ed Cheatle of San Angelo; Kirk Bedford Bond and wife, Barbara Billimek Bond of Kerrville; Ford Loos Bond of San Antonio; and Walker Douglas Bond and wife, LeAnn Rumage Bond of Fort Worth. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Marie Elizabeth Cheatle Renfro and husband, Cody Renfro, and Kyle Weber Cheatle of San Angelo; Jared Edward Bond, Carly Lynn Bond, and Brent Frank Bond of Kerrville; Savanah Grace Bond and Mary Caroline Bond of Fort Worth.
Also surviving are his brother-in-law Ambassador Malcolm Richard Barnebey and wife June of Plano, and sister-in-law Nadine Barnebey of San Antonio; his cousin The Reverend Thomas Bond and wife Joan of San Diego; many nieces and nephews; and a wealth of wonderful friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be made to a favorite charity in Frank's memory.
