He is preceded in death by his parents, Francisco Mesa and Josephine Flores, and by his sisters, Josephina Valles and Rose Sapien.
Frank is survived by his beloved wife, Jennie; children Raymond, Norman (Macarena), Loretta, and Ronald; grandchildren Naomi, Frank, Michael, and Brianna Amaya (Josh); and his sisters Mary Lou Bakke (Brad) and Irene Rivera.
Frank was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He proudly served his country in both the United States Marine Corps (2 years) and the United States Air Force (20 years). In his military career he was stationed in eight different states and overseas in Japan, France, and Vietnam—volunteering for two tours of duty during the Vietnam War.
After his medical discharge at Lackland Air Force Base in 1973, Frank worked for RCA and then for Southwest Research Institute, from which he retired after 24 years of dedicated work.
In his spare time, he took great joy in spending time with his family (both locally and visiting those family members residing in California) and in serving as a Boy Scout Scoutmaster in the early 1970’s. Although he regretted never learning how to pilot a plane or own a motorcycle, he fulfilled one of his life goals by taking a tandem sky dive in his 70’s and enjoyed the discipline Tang Soo Do martial arts in his later years. He lived a full life marked by discipline and deep love for those around him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to any charity benefitting children or animals—causes that were close to Frank’s heart.
A visitation for Frank will be held Tuesday, July 15, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Trevino Funeral Home, 2525 Palo Alto Rd, San Antonio, TX 78211, followed by a prayer service at 7:00 PM.
