I met Frank 12 years ago at the USPS, where he was my supervisor on Tour 3. We often talked about the Air Force and Bergstrom, realizing that we were both stationed there many years apart. Frank was a humble and caring man and all these years I had no idea what rank he held in the AF. I believe that was just like Frank, he didn't think of himself to highly. He instead always looked out for others, caring about them. Whenever I would run into Frank in passing at the USPS, he always made a point to ask me about my daughters and I would get a big hug from him. I will be one of the many at the USPS that will miss Frank.

Frank was a good close friend and was a caring person. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was fun to be around. Frank was dedicated to his work at the Post Office and had the respect of many. He never let anyone know just how much pain he was in, but always put others first before his own concerns. We will miss him.

"Pennies from heaven" I?d heard this story many years ago and really hadn?t given it much thought. Today during the memorial service of my dad, Frank A. Vargas, I arrived to a chapel full of people over 80 most of them from his work at the Post Office in Austin and friends from Bastrop where he lived!!!! The majority of these people traveled close to 2 hours one way to escort my father to his burial site today at the Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery?what an honor!!!! I was truly blown away by their show of support! The showing of people from his Postal Service Family amazed me. One man introduced himself as my dad?s garbage collector?now that says a lot about a person when your local community service worker travels 2 hours to attend your funeral! Since it was still early, I walked around and introduced myself and thanked everyone from the bottom of my heart for coming today. I had made my way to the back of the chapel and found myself talking to other arriving guests in the foyer. At one point, Kathy Rice, the director of Porter Loring came over to me to ask if I wanted her to hold a few gifts that I?d been given by guests in order to free up my hands. All of a sudden, a ton of silver coins landed on the floor between me and the man standing next to me. He was stunned. He even made the comment that he didn?t know how that could?ve happened since they?d come from one of his pockets. I didn?t think much of the incident at the time. It wasn?t until later after the service, during the drive from the Chapel to Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, that Kathy mentioned the ?pennies from heaven? connection, and that it was rather interesting that this man?s change fell from his pocket at the precise moment that he was with me. She said she?d never witnessed anything like that before during services and that maybe it was my dad?s way of saying ?I?m right here with ya!? I?d like to think that her comment to me may have been a second ?sign? from dad to make sure I got his earlier message ;-. After all, he?d bagged groceries on base for tips all his military life?how appropriate to have a handful of change land at my feet! I love you, Dad!

Frank Vargas was a true leader a leader not only has high standards but they also care deeply about the people to whom they are in charge of.He had strong work ethics, and was the embodiment of integrity.He always made people laugh and he loved to joke and gossip with us at work. Frank treated us like we were his own children. Frank Vargas is a great personal loss and I will miss him dearly.

After working with Frank for 12 years I found him to be a very caring person and hard working man. He was always helpful to everyome. In a dispute Frank always found the middle ground, considerate of each individual. Frank was like a father to me and so many others at the Post Office. It broke my heart to learn of his illness. After his diagnosis and treatment Frank set an example for everyone by maintaining his strong work ethic and always with a smile. He will be greatly missed.

Frank called me Dec74 while I was remote Alaska and introduced himself as my new 81st TCF supervisor before I even knew I was coming to Austin.... What a super mentor and supervisor I had while at Bergstrom. The skills he imparted and the friendship will be with me forever.

I experienced Frank as an exceptionally generous person who loved life. He was kind to himself and respectful of others. He was prepared to help strangers as readily as friends. I noticed this about him...and admired him for it.

I will miss seeing Frank's forever smiling face. He always had a fantastic attitude and a cheerful greeting for his friends. God Bless his family and fellow friends. We were very lucky to know him.

Growing up in a small village outside Ensenada, Mexico, we never even imagined traveling any place outside of Ensenada. I always remember when my cousin Frank came from Germany to visit us and brought a beautiful girl with him, his daughter Judith. That visit is implanted in my brain forever. Everybody was so happy, having such a wonderful time - it was magical.... Cousin Frank was like a hero to me, having someone from our humble family living overseas, coming to visit us and making us feel like, we too could aspire to do better and to see the world. Over the years, I had not seen Frank in very long time. But, I always thought of him. To me he was almost superhuman, some kind of hero. And, a hero he was, he served our country with honor and pride, not only for the standard enlistment years, but for 28 years. My husband and I had the privilege to see him again three years ago. It was like we had known him forever. We had such a great time in Ensenada, we where looking forward to spending more time with him. Frank, was such a kind and loving person. As my husband Bill said, ?he was a man?s man?. I will miss my conversations with him. God has another angel in heaven. Frank will be forever in our hearts. Tuve gracias a dios la oportunidad de despedirme de Frank, y decirle que lo miraba como un hermano mayor y que lo quermucho el pensaba venir a pasar todo el mes de agosto y yo le comente que Manuel mi esposo ira un torneo de pesca, y que lo invitaba, pensaba ir, ya que le gustaba pescar. 
El sdo 5 de septiembre, le dije ??y pensar que ibas a ir a Punta Abreojos????Si voy a ir pero como el Pensamiento!, la salida era el 12 de septiembre, me dijo que le dijera a Manuel que se cuidara y que lo quermucho! Tambidijo que quermucho a Olga, Armando y a mYo le mencione que le hablarel lunes o martes y el contesto: ??Que mejor despudel mioles??, le pregunte si al hospital, el dijo que no?? que a su casa pero titubeo, y dijo que me llamar y por consiguiente ya habfallecido. 
Siento mucho, que Frank haya fallecido! Con mucho cariu prima Raquel.

Frank was a wonderfully, kind, caring man, that was always so giving to me and my family. He was so nice to my daughter even when she was a handful. He didnt seem to get dissappointed in things you did wrong, and he was always willing to help you, with advice. All of us here miss him. I wish i had got to knew him better.

I just read all the tributes that have been entered to this guestbook for Frank, what else is there to say ? Frank was a very kind and thoughtful man and he is one person that I can honestly say it has been a pleasure to know him. I can't think of one time that Frank ever walked past without saying

My family and I wanted to send my condulances to my family in Texas, My Uncle to me was a man that I admire for a far. My mother would tell us great things about him since he was off doing the things he loved. The last time I saw him was at my Aunt Elena's Funeral and he look good and I even have video and pictures if u would like me to send to you. I have had the honor of knowing Frank for many years. Initially at Bergstrom AFB, Austin and later at the main Post Office in Austin. Truly, he was a professional, genuine, honest and friendly man. He always had a welcoming smile and made you feel like a part of himself. Frank is gone from us, but his spirit remains in the heart of all who respected and loved him. I pray for his family.
