

Fred Eberhardt, loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, passed away August 1, 2023 at the age of 89 in San Antonio, Texas. He was the fourth child born to Bertha Augusta Machost & Adolph Frederick Eberhardt in Jourdanton, TX on September 10, 1933.
Fred graduated from Harlandale High School in 1950. He first began working at Frost Bank and then Kelly Air Force Base as a Sheet Metal Worker. He then joined the United States Navy in April 1951, completed “A” school in Norman, OK before being stationed at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, FL. He was deployed to Keflavik, Iceland and then returned to NAS Jacksonville, FL. He obtained the rank of Aviation Structural Mechanic 1st Class before completing his service in 1956. Fred received the National Service Defense Ribbon and the Navy Good Conduct Medal.
Fred married Tommy Louise Newman in 1952 and there were 3 children born of that marriage. They divorced in 1975. In 1982, Fred married Kathryn Sue (Jacob) in Battle Creek, Michigan and gained 2 step children.
Fred obtained his private pilot’s license and proudly flew for his daddy before he passed. He began working at Kelly Air Force Base as a Supply Cataloger and then transferred to the Hart-Doyle-Inouye Federal Center in Battle Creek, Michigan before retiring in 1988 as a GS-14, Chief Policy and Program Director. He received his Bachelors Degree in Business from Spring Arbor College in 1987.
Fred will be remembered by his infectious smile, contagious laugh, dry witty humor, love of family, generosity, discipline and success. Fred and Kathy volunteered for the PGA for many years in San Antonio, participated in numerous golf and bowling leagues, enjoyed fishing and playing cards. Fred and Kathy enjoyed traveling by taking cruises, bus tours and visiting family and friends. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He was a loving, kind and selfless husband, dad and grandfather that will be dearly missed.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Margie Bruce; brother, George Eberhardt; and brother-in-law, Albert “Bubba” Hahn. Fred is survived by his loving wife, Kathryn; sons, Michael Eberhardt (Gloria) and Steven Eberhardt; daughter, Kerri Bourquin (Herbert); step-daughters, Sarah Parker (Greg) and Theresa Hirakis (Kevin); grandchildren, Alexis, Michael, Salina, Shaun, Jordan, Kailey, Marisa, Megan, Julia; great grandchildren, Zachary, Chase, Scotty, Chandler, McKenna, Miles, Reece, Olivia, Jaxon, Ava, Roslynn, Jace and Gracelynn; great great grandchildren Xander & Ellouise; sister Margaret Hahn and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m, Saturday, August 5, 2023, at Porter Loring Mortuary West.
