

Fred Vick Richards, M.D., age 94, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 7, 2012. He was born on July 20, 1918, to Mittie Rosella Richards and Fred Richards in San Antonio, Texas. Fred graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1936 and Baylor University in 1940. He was the last surviving member of the final graduating class from Baylor College of Medicine in Dallas, Texas in 1943.
Dr. Richards served as a physician in the 1st Battalion of the Marine Corps during World War II. He engaged in the assault of Pelelieu in the Central Pacific and Okinawa in the Northern Pacific, where he was made Captain. He was discharged in 1946.
Dr. Richards married Rebekah Webb of San Antonio on April 29, 1944, prior to his deployment. At the end of the war, Dr. and Mrs. Richards moved to Tulia, Texas, where he practiced general medicine for 48 years. During that time, he was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he served as a Trustee and deacon, and participated in a number of medical mission trips. After retiring to San Antonio in 1994, they joined the First Baptist Church of San Antonio, where he served on the Missions Committee and was a Life Deacon.
Dr. Richards is survived by his wife, Rebekah, and four children and their spouses: Sara Burk of San Antonio and her husband, Ken, Dr. Fred Richards III of San Antonio and his wife, Clarinda, John Richards of Houston and his wife, Melinda, and Elizabeth Ann Stone of Dallas and her husband, Ken. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dr. Mark H. Richards.
Dr. Richards' life will be celebrated at a memorial service on Tuesday, September 11, 2012, at 2 p.m., in the Wilson Chapel at First Baptist Church of San Antonio. Memorials may be made to the Television Ministry of the First Baptist Church of San Antonio.
