Frederick Frank Andelbrat, age 81, passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021, in San Antonio, Texas from the effects of a debilitating stroke he suffered in early November. Ironically, yet fittingly for a beloved son nicknamed "Butchie", Fred passed away on the Anniversary of his late mother Catherines birthday. Fred was born November 4, 1940, in Berwyn, Illinois to Catherine and her husband Edward "Ed" Andelbrat.
Before embarking on a successful 35-year career as a buying executive with Sears, Fred considered a spiritual vocation to the Priesthood, graduating from Quigley Preparatory High School in downtown Chicago and attending Mundelein Seminary. After a spiritual change of heart, Fred launched his career at Sears, met and married his first wife, Madeline, and became a father in 1964 with the birth of their daughter, Donna (Joe) McGuire. Fred climbed the ranks at Sears and became the lead buyer in their highly successful automotive category.
In 1976, Fred married Kathleen "Kathy" Garncarz Rutchik, becoming a stepfather to her four children: Michael (Rochelle) Rutchik, John Rutchik, Lisa (Tony) Piazzi, and Lara (Rick) Woodside. Fred was competitive, which served him well professionally and fueled his passion for Bowling and Golf. He had the strength to send a 16-pound bowling ball thundering down the hardwood lanes at his favorite bowling alleys. He exhibited the finesse needed to stroke a small, dimpled golf ball across manicured carpets of green grass on beautiful golf courses around the country. When he retired at the ripe old age of 53 and soon thereafter moved with Kathy, Lisa and her husband Tony to San Antonio, he spent many a day at golf courses and bowling alleys in his new hometown.
When physical health challenges robbed him of his ability to bowl and golf, he channeled his competitive juices into spirited games of Gin with Kathy. Winnings were deposited in a porcelain ginger jar and were later used for a nice meal at one of their favorite restaurants food being another one of Freds great passions. As much as Fred loved golf, bowling, card games and a delicious meal, his greatest love and passion was reserved for Kathy, his older sisters Jacque Zeller and Connie (Frank) Plunkett, and his 8 grandchildren: Hailey and Sean (Donna), Piper (Michael); Nyah and Cameron (John); Natalie and Noelle (Lisa) and Thomas (Lara). He also found unconditional love and forged a special bond with the family dogs, Lucy, Hazel, Jake and Koda. They became his constant companions and TV buddies as he kept his mind sharp watching current events programs, cooking shows and his beloved sports. During his most difficult days, Fred turned to his Catholic Faith to give him strength and prepare him to receive his just reward in Heaven for a life well-lived.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Catherine, his first wife, Madeline Seebacher, stepdaughter Lara Woodside and family pets Hazel and Koda. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sisters, his daughter Donna, 3 stepchildren, his grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Although Fred often enjoyed time alone, whether bowling, golfing, or watching television, he was happiest when surrounded by close family. We take comfort in knowing that he will be reunited with many family members that preceded him on his journey to Heaven. Those of us that remain miss him dearly but, have many fond memories and entertaining Fred stories to comfort us and bring laughter into our homes in the years ahead.
