It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of Frederick Stephen Gaines, who left this world too soon.
Frederick was born on December 3, 1971, in Gary, Indiana, to the loving parents of Marlene Gaines and Leonard Gaines, and was raised alongside siblings Michael Leonard Gaines, Lisa Ann Gaines, and Chris Paul Gaines. From his earliest days, Frederick grew up in the Baptist faith and developed a strong spiritual foundation at an early age. He was baptized at Village First Baptist Church, where he learned the values of faith, family, and service. His upbringing in the church helped shape him into the man he became — grounded, faithful, and guided by strong moral principles.
Growing up, Frederick was a bright and intelligent young man who excelled in school, with math and history among his favorite subjects. He attended Roosevelt High School in Gary, Indiana, and following graduation, answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army, demonstrating his dedication, courage, and commitment to something greater than himself. During his time in service, he was stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky, and later in Germany, where he proudly served his country. Frederick fulfilled his duties with honor and integrity and later received an honorable discharge from the United States Army.
For over 15 years, Frederick built a successful and respected career in the equipment industry, working with H&E Equipment and later with Herc Rentals. Through hard work, dedication, and natural leadership, he worked his way into management and took great pride in the work he did each day. Frederick truly enjoyed his career and found great fulfillment in helping others grow and succeed. Whether he was working in San Antonio, Florida, or Dallas, he consistently poured his knowledge, leadership, and energy into every team and store he served. His commitment made a meaningful impact, significantly improving store performance and strengthening the teams around him. Frederick was known not only for his strong work ethic but also for the respect, encouragement, and mentorship he gave to those who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Outside of his career, Frederick had a deep love for sports, both playing in his earlier years and watching. He enjoyed watching sports such as professional wrestling, football, basketball, baseball, soccer, golf, tennis, hockey, NASCAR racing, and F1 Driving. Sports were more than just a pastime for Frederick—it was a source of joy, connection, and friendly competition. His passion often sparked lively debates among family and friends, conversations that were always filled with laughter, strong opinions, and unforgettable moments. Those who knew Frederick will always remember the enthusiasm and energy he brought to every discussion about the game.
Frederick loved to joke. He had a special way of making people laugh, often sending the perfect meme at just the right time — whether it was about wrestling, football, or basketball, he knew something hilarious would brighten your day. His humor was part of his love language, and through those jokes and memes, he stayed connected to the people he cared about. His laughter and playful spirit will be deeply missed.
As a husband, Frederick loved deeply and faithfully. He believed in showing up, standing strong, and protecting what mattered most, his family. His laughter, wisdom, steady encouragement, and joyful spirit will forever echo in the hearts of those blessed to know him.
Though his time here was far too short, the impact he made will live on through the love he poured into his family, friends, and co-workers. His life was a testament to commitment, perseverance, humor, faith, and unconditional love.
Frederick is survived by his loving wife, Jennifer Gaines; his mother, Marlene Gaines, his brother, Chris Paul Gaines; children Amari Gaines, Arianna Gaines, Frederick Gaines Jr., Devon Gaines, Devante, Gaines, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members; and dear friends who will continue to honor his memory.
Frederick was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Lisa Gaines, his brother, Michael Gaines, and his father, Leonard Gaines.
