Fredia was a small body but had the strongest determination and dedication when it came to her children and serving the Lord. Language was never a barrier, Fredia was very involved with the Parent Advisory Council in the late 70’s and she fought for a bilingual program in the early 80’s at her kids elementary school, becoming the first President of the Spanish Bilingual Program at Sparks Elementary School. And if that was not enough she taught Baile Folklorico and was in charge of preparing the 5 de Mayo Dance Performance for 20 years at her children’s elementary. During her oldest Son’s High School years she again offered her passion for dance and formed a Folkloric Dance Group and visited several Retirement Homes as they shared some joy with their performances.
The ability to move forward in life no matter what had fallen on her and accomplish things in a courageous way for the love of God was her daily fuel in life. Her hands were rarely still. She was gifted with so many talents that allowed her to make, sew, knit and paint beautiful religious paintings for her children, grandchildren and church fundraisers.
For many years Fredia worked along with Padre Juan Rivas at Hombre Nuevo in Baldwin Park California, sharing her faith, reaching out to the needy and poor of Tijuana, Puerto Peñasco and Mexicali. Her strong character helped her to be relentless at organizing and gathering donations to provide blankets, food and necessary toiletries for the poor. Her purpose in life was to help the poor, bring laughter in difficult times, fight for justice and bring God to the lonely, confused and deserted soul.
Her life was a living example— “Make time to know God, be of service to others, pray with the intercession of our blessed Mother Mary and always keep God close to your heart”.
