Gale H. Shiffrin

Born July 4, 1921 in Pleasanton, she considered Waco her hometown.

After graduating from Baylor University in 1941, she taught in the Texas Rio Grande valley. Soon after, she moved to NYC to work in editing for Time Life publishing. After WWII, she taught US children of military families stationed in Korea and Okinawa.

After meeting and marrying her future husband, Benjamin H. Shiffrin (USAF pilot), she continued traveling by his side until retiring in San Antonio, TX. Hobbies included painting and gardening. She was an active member of many local civic and charitable organizations, including The San Antonio Conservation Society to which she dedicated countless and tireless hours writing and producing videos/documents and leading tours.

She was committed to the preservation of San Antonio history which included the publishing of her book "Echoes from Women of the Alamo", an historical guide of the lives of women at the Battle of the Alamo and later during the crucial Alamo preservation by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.

She is survived by sister Kathryn Schmitt of Mountainside, NJ; sons Cullen and wife Robyn of Carson City, NV and Phillip and wife Rebeca of Spring, TX; grandchildren Sophia and husband Gustavo of Spring, TX and Stephany and great grandchildren Hayden and Logan of Spring, TX. She is also survived by her beloved dog Benji. She was preceded in death by her husband Benjamin (Colonel, USAF, Ret), brothers D.K. and L.K. Hamilton, and sister Loree Wilson.
