Gary was born and raised in San Antonio Texas and created a beautiful life here. He was a self-employed entrepreneur, homebuilder, and restaurant owner. He built many homes and businesses in Blanco, Comal, Atascosa, and Bexar counties. Two of his favorites being the Santa Fe Café restaurant in South San Antonio, which he built and ran from 1988 to 2002 and the Adobe Village in Bulverde Texas.
Gary would never miss a San Antonio Spurs or Dallas Cowboys game on TV or radio and truly enjoyed traveling to West Texas and New Mexico with his family. His favorite pastime was grilling in the backyard around a campfire with his children and grandchildren and telling stories of old times or just giving advice. Gary also appreciated taking time to enjoy a good Jack Ryan/Tom Clancy movie or book, listening to AM radio and sports talk shows and especially reading sci-fi government books. He also enjoyed talking with his daughter, Jennifer about politics and international affairs. He definitely loved each of his five children and three grandchildren, and was proud of each one of them.
Gary leaves behind his wife of 28 years Theresa Kuykendall; his five children, Christopher Cooke, Jennifer Cooke, Melissa Campbell, Kyle Kuykendall, Katy Kuykendall and grandchildren, Caleb, Campbell, Joshua, Campbell, and Hannah Campbell. Along with many other family and friends, who loved him dearly.
Gary was truly loved by all who met him.
