Gary W. Schuchart went to be with his Lord on July 15, 2020 at NC Baptist Hospital after a courageous battle with Covid-19. He was born on February 16, 1946 in San Antonio, Tx to parents Oscar W. and Evelyn Mary Schuchart, who preceded him in death. Gary is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Eileen, daughter Mandy Schuchart Boldra (husband Michael Boldra), sons Michael Evans and Bennie Schuchart, and his adored grandchildren, Katherine Grace, Riley Logan and Morgan Mae. He also leaves behind his sister, Luanne Reinhardt (husband Lee Reinhardt). In addition, there are numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
After graduating from Texas A&M in College Station, Tx, class of ’68, Gary returned to San Antonio and became a football, basketball, track and PE coach at Harlandale Middle School. He went on to become Head Coach and Chairperson of the PE Dept, before retiring in 1998 after coaching for 30 years.
Gary was a kind, loving man who never met a stranger. Always laughing and teasing, he was instantly loved by everyone he met. He was also an animal lover who adored his dogs Hank, Rowdy and Gigi and the neighborhood dogs always had to stop for a visit with Gary while out for their daily walk. He was very devoted to his family, treasured his wife, a hero to his children and grandchildren, and a dedicated coach whose lasting impact on his former athletes is unmeasurable. He will be forever missed.
A visitation will take place on Friday, July 24, 2020, from 12 to 2pm at Sunset Funeral Home on Austin Hwy. in San Antonio, Tx. A private family graveside service will follow after.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gary’s name to The Christian School at Castle Hills (2216 NW Military Hwy., 78213), a place near and dear to his heart.
