Our beloved Gary Alexander Witt, 29, passed away unexpectedly on August 23, 2020. Alex, an American citizen born in Panama, is the son of Dionisia Peveler and Gary Witt. When his parents divorced, his mother married Christopher Peveler, who raised Alex as his own. The family was completed when his dear, little sister Cristina was born.
Growing up, Alex was an athletic child who loved playing soccer and swimming; a vivacious young boy, he enjoyed singing and was always the life of a group. Alex began his formal education in Hawaii, continuing this throughout different continental states, Honduras, and even studying in Europe, as he was a military brat. Within the military culture, a “military brat” is a child who is bold, responsible, adaptable, and tolerant; one who deserves affection and respect because of all the sacrifices endured while his or her military parents serve our country. Alex was an avid traveler who enjoyed learning about new cultures. This helped him feel comfortable conversing about diverse topics and interacting with people from all walks of life, enriching his perspective on the human race.
Learning about different cultures helped Alex develop his passion for gastronomy. A little boy, he would always ask his “Abu” for a “pepino” salad. He learned all facets of managing a restaurant, from the work in the kitchen to the training and management aspects. He used to say that cooking is an art that makes ideas fly. Alex had many plans in mind, among them, opening his own restaurant, and becoming a computer programmer, as he was passionate about music, videogames, and interacting with people from all over the world.
Sadly, with his early passing, Alex won’t be able to fulfill these dreams. However, he lived life to the fullest; sometimes frenetically; other times, calmly enjoying and living in the moment. His most precious gift in life was the birth of his daughter Annabelle. He enjoyed every single moment with her and was always a caring father.
Survivors include his cherished daughter, Annabelle; his beloved parents, Dionisia Peveler and Gary Witt, Christopher Peveler and Lourdes Witt; his sisters Cristina, whom he adored, and Ceci, who looked up to him; his special “Abuela” (Abuela Graciela); his tío Víctor; tía Maribel; tía Chely and uncle Thomas; tía Elba and uncle Steven; cousins Andy, Isaac, Philip, Nadia, Eka, Ana Elena, Kathelys, Víctor Manuel, Víctor Jesús, Diana Ethel, and Liah Victoria; grandparents Papá Fino, Linda, and Elton Witt, and Jane Peveler.
Alex loved his family and his friends. His kindness and loving generosity will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, Cielo mío (my Sky). Rest in peace, Little Tiger.
