
He was born in Houston, TX, on May 14, 1924, to George and Vera Machen Dawson, Sr.
George grew up in Central Texas, and attended McMurray College in Abilene in 1942. In March of 1943 he joined the United States Marines Corps.
After his discharge in 1945, he lived in Abilene and attended McMurray College. In 1949 he moved to Hondo, where he met his wife Evelyn. They were married in 1951.
He joined the U.S. Border Patrol and the family lived in several locations before finally settling in Uvalde. He retired from the Border Patrol in 1977. He served for four years as a Justice of the Peace in Uvalde before retiring and later moving to San Antonio.
George was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Doris Willis.
Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Evelyn Joyce Breiten Dawson of San Antonio; 5 children, Gary Dawson and wife Stephanie of Hondo, Bruce Dawson and wife Kim of Edmond, OK, Robin Dawson of San Antonio, Sandra Montgomery and husband Craig of Spring Branch, and Thad Dawson of San Antonio; 12 grandchildren, Amanda, Kristen, Shelby, George, Chelsea, Katelynn, Hunter, Suzanne, Samantha, Collin, Sarah, and Kelly; 4 great-granddaughters. He is also survived by 2 nieces.
