George Sherman Fraige of San Antonio, born on November 11, 1940 in Laredo, Texas was called to Heaven by our Lord on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the age of 74. He was preceded in death by his father, Jorge Elias Fraige, his mother, Isabel Albright, and brother, Robert Lee Fraige.
He is survived by his sister, Lynn Pinson of San Antonio, nephew, Brian James Fraige of Shawnee, Kansas and cousins, Isabel Canavati, Blanca Canavati, Lupita Canavati, and Victor Canavati all from Monterrey, Mexico. He was a devoted son and brother. As the older sibling, George dedicated the greater part of his life caring for his mother and sister after the passing of his father. He was lovingly called HaBeBe (Hebrew/Arab) meaning my beloved one, by his mother and Monterrey cousins. George attended Jefferson High school in San Antonio and graduated from Texas State University in 1968 with a secondary degree in history. He taught at Washington Irving Middle School in San Antonio for 28 years, retiring on May 1996. George was a dedicated history teacher who loved teaching Texas history and American history. His classes were enriched with poems, songs, and stories students had to learn about Texas. Students sought his advice and guidance even after his retirement.
He was a compassionate person who cared for the less fortunate. George taught catechism for confirmation classes at St. Paul’s Catholic Church. George was an avid collector of books, documentary tapes, and films for his classes and to share with friends. If he met someone for the first time and he found out what the person liked to read, he would present them with books the next time he saw them. George enjoyed attending Bible sessions at his friends’ homes. His collection of books ranged from spiritual, positive thinking, and history. George enjoyed setting up fish tanks and growing different types of cacti. His volunteered worked included the Alamo Regional Science & Engineering Fair and the St. Mary’s University Oyster Bake. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Alamo Area Parkinson’s Support Group, 8300 Floyd Curl Drive, San Antonio, Texas 78229. We will miss George and his beautiful Deep blue eyes. Lynn Pinson, John and Rose Perez extend their gratitude to the CIMA Hospice staff and to the wonderful private providers.
