George E. Harrington, III

George Edward Harrington, III of Austin, TX (formerly of San Antonio, TX) passed away peacefully on September 1, 2023 due to congestive heart failure at the age of 89. George was born on August 18, 1934 in Hartford, CT to parents George Edward and Isabelle (Payne) Harrington. He grew up in Broad Brook, Warehouse Point, and Hazardville CT, and attended Enfield High School. He studied electrical engineering, attending the University of Connecticut for his bachelor’s degree and NYU for his master’s degree. George married Phyllis Vaughan in 1956. He served in the Air Force at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma and later Randolph AFB in San Antonio. Following his service, he and Phyllis moved to New Jersey where George began his successful career at Bell Laboratories and remained there for 32 years. After both children graduated from college, Phyllis and George returned to San Antonio, where George opened his own engineering consulting firm. George was an avid reader, and he and Phyllis spent many happy years enjoying world travel and fine dining.

George is predeceased by his parents, his sister Isabelle (Herbert) Luce, brother David (Dorothy) Harrington, and son Bruce (Barbara) Harrington. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Phyllis, daughter Joyce (David) Anderson, and grandchildren Kathryn Anderson, Colleen Anderson, and Erin Harrington.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
