Remembering George McKenzie Jr., husband of Patricia (predeceased) and father of 6 children, Stuart, Linda, Holly, Jo Ann, Christine and Kevin (predeceased). Grandfather to 11, and Great Grandfather to 8. Early on George was stationed in Garmish Partenkirchen as a ski instructor for the European soldiers needing to learn alpine maneuvers. Many times dad said he could not have planned a more interesting military career. Over the years George enjoyed working in Food & Beverage management for NCO and Officer Clubs. He did this on assignment to Presidio CA., Ft Shafter Hawaii, S. Korea and Viet Nam. George is a recipient of 9 Military Honors/Medals. His last assignment was with the USA Adjutant General Fort Myer, Virginia.
After dad retired July 31, 1981 as Sergeant Major (30+ years) he attended Chaminade University, Honolulu - the eldest person in his class, graduating with Bachelor of Business Administration.
We will remember dad for his generosity and at times for his thoughtful advice, however he will always be remembered as George our dad who gave his best for his family. He was sure of himself, courteous and a man who was respected although admittedly when there are six kids to keep track of there had to be some times of utter frustration. Just when it seemed that everything was ship shape dad would get a new assignment and off he would go. Many times the family would not be able to go with dad in which case it would be his wife Patricia who kept us clean and healthy. Although he mentioned her from time to time we could tell he missed her terribly after she passed away in 2004.
In his later years dad settled in San Antonio, TX. where he enjoyed the Spurs and the company of his visiting children, grand children, great grandchildren, niece's and nephew's. George McKenzie will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery next to his wife Patricia.
Services for George will be private.
