

He was born on September 21, 1927 in Houston, TX, the second son to Gabriel Requa Mead and Jeannette March Hagelstein Mead.
He attended the San Antonio Academy, Texas Military Institute and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin where he was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He was a member of the Order of the Alamo, the San Antonio German Club, the Texas Cavaliers and the San Antonio Country Club. He served for many years on the Santa Rosa Children's Hospital Foundation Board, as a Trustee of Incarnate Word College University of the Incarnate Word and the Texas Municipal Advisory Council.
He also served as Mayor of Terrell Hills from 1980 1986. Although he retired as Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer from Frost National Bank in 1998, he continued to go to work nearly every day and will be missed by his many dear colleagues.
He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Anne Marie "Nancy" Mead, his parents, and brother, Gabriel Requa Mead, Jr.
He is survived by his four children, George Carlton Mead, Jr., Elizabeth Anne Mead, Robert March Mead Katia, and Suzanne Dillon Mead Feldmann Kirk; grandchildren, Cameron Feil, Megan Hauglid, Anne-Marie Breedlove, Max Feldmann, Alexandre Sasha and Andr Mead; his cousin, Carlton Hagelstein; brothers-in-law, Dillon Snell Rebecca and Arthur Snell Joy; numerous nieces and nephews; Godson, Lukin T. Gilliland, Jr.; and countless good friends.
The family wishes to thank Esther Mendez for her many years of dedicated service.
