

He was preceded in death by his father, George Ellsworth Nelson; and mother-in-law, Virginia Herken. Kent is survived by his wife, Margie; son; Justin and his wife, Kelly; son, Jordan and his wife, Courtney; daughter, Madison; grandchildren, Austynn, Kaydan, Brooklyn, Harlow, Jett and Jaxx; mother; Gloria Nelson, of Hurst, TX; father-in-law, James Herken Jr. and his companion, Kay, of Easton, KS; sister, Kay Rains and her husband, Darren, of Hurst TX; brother-in-law, Jimmy Herken and wife, Kelly, of Easton, KS; two nieces, Kristin Digulio and her husband, Shane, of Hurst, TX, and Kelsey Burdiek and husband, Bryce, of Centralia, KS; and two nephews, Dusty Rains, of Hurst, TX and Evan Herken and his wife, Adina, of Easton, KS.
Kent attended Washburn University in Topeka Kansas to play football where he met the love of his life Margie. They were married October 1981 in Easton, Kansas and started their new life in Hurst Euless Bedford Texas. Starting a new career and adventure in the hardware business turned into a lifetime of fun and friends. Kent and Margie moved to San Antonio in 1988, raising their family there. He was currently employed with Dormakaba USA, Inc.
Kent loved nothing more than spending time with his family. He loved the Dallas Cowboys, golf, and hunting, especially those special deer hunts in Kansas. Humor was Kent’s forte, as he was the life of every party or family get together. Everyone that knew Kent can attest to his kind heart and generosity. Kent was the definition of selflessness.
The family will receive friends for a public viewing beginning at 5:30 pm, Friday, March 3, 2023, at Porter Loring North.

Charlie Gault will officiate. Inurnment will take place in Round Prairie Cemetery in Atchison, Kansas at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Potter Community Church, 507 Republic, Potter, KS 66002.
