
He was born September 17, 1909, in Rixdorf, Berlin, Germany, to Max Reinhold and Margarete Antonia Metha Wohlfeil Pankratz.
In 1923, he and his elder brother migrated to the United States where he made his home with a distant relative. George graduated from the Arlington Minnesota High School and the Dunwoody Institute of Minneapolis.
He was married to the late Merva Lillis Thompson of Arlington, Minnesota and they moved to San Antonio where their three children were born.
In 1975, George retired from the Internal Audit Department of the City of San Antonio. In 1981, he moved to a rural home near Boerne.
He was a charter member of the First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Antonio, the German Texas Heritage Society, the Kendall County Genealogical Society, the Brunhilde Lodge #7 of the Order of the Sons of Hermann, the Boerne Area Historical Preservation Society, the Friends of the Boerne Public Library, the Chor Gemeinschaft Texas and the Beethoven Maennerchor.
George is survived by three children, John Max Pankratz and wife, Valerie, George Kurt Pankratz and wife, Dana, Margaret Mary Kloss; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
