

George Samuel Walters, 93, of LaFollette, Tennessee, passed away on April 19, 2018, at the Blue Skies of Texas Retirement Community in San Antonio, Texas. He was a Christian, baptized in East Tennessee, and loved the Lord. George was a pleasant, happy, optimistic person his entire life. He was born to the late Oba and Sally Lou Walters of LaFollette, Tennessee on September 22, 1924.
Col. Walters is survived by his youngest son, Curtis Walters, (Edith); Sue Walters (widow of his late son, Wayne); six grandchildren: Jennifer, Karen, Amber, Brennan, Heather, and Samantha; his beloved sister, Blanche and her sons, Richard and David; Betty (widow of his late brother, Joe) and her daughter, Ann; his niece, Stephanie; and his four wonderful great-grandchildren plus one on the way.
Col. Walters is preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Ozelle of Texas, their eldest son, Wayne; his dear brothers, Joe and Wheeler; and his niece Susan.
Col. Walters loved history and received his Master's Degree in History from Vanderbilt University. According to his WWII flight instructor, he was a natural-born pilot. His favorite plane to fly was the P41. He became an AF flight instructor himself and then an AF Office of Special Investigations Staff Officer. During his tenure in the OSI, he had the honor of meeting/protecting several US presidents, world leaders, and actors. Col. Walters loved good 'ol country music, golf, telling jokes, a good glass of scotch, and sharing all sorts of stories- especially those about his family's LaFollette funeral business. He was a master storyteller of true stories. Most of all, he loved his wife, Ozelle, and his family. He was proud of his service to his country and proud to be raised in the hills of East Tennessee. He retired to enjoy life at the Blue Skies Retirement Community in San Antonio, Texas.
Col. Walters will be laid to rest with military honors at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas on June 11, 2018 at 11am.
