
Gerald Babe Barnholtz, age 82, of San Antonio, died Tuesday, August 13, 2002. He was the son of Benjamin and Jenny Barnholtz. Mr. Barnholtz was a 1938 Brackenridge High School graduate. He went to St. Mary's University and attended MIT in Boston and later joined the Navy during the war. While in Boston he met Hilda Woodcoff and moved back to San Antonio to help run Barnholtz Furniture. In 1958 with his cousin Morris Kelfer he started Barkel Furniture Company and produced upholstered furniture on Malone Street. He moved the company to New Braunfels, TX, and continued to work until last week. He was a member of Anchor Masonic Lodge # 424 A.F. & A.M. and was a 50 year Noble of the Alzafar Shrine. He broke his leg at home and went to the hospital, but went into cardiac arrest and died. He was an avid golfer. His foursome is reduced again. Survived by his wife of 62 years, Hilda Barnholtz; daughters, Loretta Liedka and husband Mike, Joan Beecham and husband Bruce; grandchildren, Blake Liedka and wife Stephanie, Tracey Hechler and husband James, Dawn Ullmann and husband Ken, Jennifer Smith and husband David, and Ross Turley and wife Heidi; eight great grandchildren.Rabbi Barry Block officiating.
